I’m Diego Rivera-Kohn, a filmmaker based in Montreal. My work moves fluidly between the editing room, the drone’s eye view, and personal artistic projects. This crossing of worlds reflects a restless curiosity that drives me to explore how images, light, rhythm, and story connect.

I currently work at Concordia University’s Cinema School, and beyond filmmaking, I find the same creative energy in fermentation, cooking, and urban agriculture, where I recently completed a certificate.

I find my greatest fulfillment in the act of creating. While oxygen, food, water, and love sustain me, it’s the process of bringing something original into existence that makes me feel most fully human. For me, moving between disciplines isn’t a distraction—it’s a way of staying alive to the world, learning through making, and continually rediscovering the joy of creation.

My work moves between three interconnected worlds:

Editing and Post-Production – For more than a decade, I have shaped images and sounds into stories, collaborating on documentaries, fiction, and animation. Editing has been not only my profession, but also the place where I’ve learned how rhythm and structure can give meaning to what we see.

Aerial Imaging – With the camera, and especially from the air, I explore perspectives that reveal hidden patterns and unexpected forms. As a Transport Canada–certified drone pilot for advanced operations, I have contributed aerial images to many projects and have also shared this knowledge while teaching Drone Videography at Concordia University.

Artistic Practice as a Filmmaker – Parallel to this work, I direct my own films. These personal projects have traveled to festivals across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including IDFA, HotDocs, and Thessaloniki. My film Ex-voto for Three Souls received the Golden Frog Award at Camerimage, the world’s foremost festival dedicated to the art of cinematography.
